Baseball Starts on a High Note!

The Eagles started the 2012 season with a win on Tuesday, March 20th with a come from behind victory over the visiting Bloomfield Wildcats 11-6.

In what started out looking like the home team would romp after scoring 5 runs in the first inning, the Wildcats scored one in the third and then five of their own in the 4th inning to take a 6-5 lead.

Oran pushed across 5 more in the 5th and one more in the 6th to provide the final margin of victory.

Dalton Elfrink (1-0) picked up the win in relief of Kody Moore.

Moore went 4-5 at the plate. Elfrink, Moore and Adam Schaefer each doubled. Blake Carlyle and Seth Ressel had two RBI each.

Another Banner Season

For the 2nd season in a row, the Oran Eagle basketball team will be honored with a post-season banner.

Last year, the Eagles won their district for the first time in over a decade before bowing out against New Haven in the sectional round.

This year, despite losing four of five starters, Oran was able to reload and peak at the right time to not only claim the district title but also defeat Crossroads Prep to advance to quarterfinals.

Not since 1969 had Oran hoops advanced this far in state play.

Although Oran dropped this game 74-48 to Hayti, the whole community is proud of this team's accomplishments.

During the first week of the regular season, the Eagles dropped two games by a total of 79 point and had a record of 2-3. They finished 19-11.

So sometime next year a banner will hang from the rafters of OHS with names of four seniors: Blake Carlyle, Blake Henson, Payton Kern and Adam Schaefer and the rest of the team.

Congratulation Eagles, Oran is proud of you.

Uncharted Territory

1969.

They weren't born.

Their parents weren't born.

1969.

Gas was 35 cents a gallon. Man took his first step on the moon. The Beatles were big. The Miracle Mets won the World Series. Richard Nixon was President. There was Woodstock, not the little bird from Peanuts, but the music festival. It was the last time the Oran Eagles basketball team advanced this far in the state basketball tournament.

1969.

Oran falls to Dixon in the Class M finals in a controversial finish.
